Annoyed

A few girlfriends and I went to the cheap movie theater last night to see Shall We Dance. Now, I didn't pay much money to watch BUT I did go to watch a movie, not be annoyed by children! Some rude people behind us brough their schoolage kids to the late movie which started at 9:35 (my 7 &9 year old children were in bed by that time) Now, I have no problem with kids being at a movie...late or not...what I DO mind is if the kids are noisy, restless, kicking my seat, dropping their water bottle, whistling and their parents are talking a great deal during the movie. I shushed them once and turned around a few other times. If your kids aren't theater friendly (or their parents too for that matter) STAY AT HOME and rent a movie!

Merry Christmas!

Taking the time to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas! We had our little family Christmas last night as we are off to the in laws today and won't be home until Christmas night. It's so fun to watch the kids, they get excited about the littlest presents...like socks! Even our dog was quite happy with his new toy! (he's pulled most of the fuzz off of it already)
So, enjoy the season...Eat, drink & be merry!

Love of Music

Today my daughters attacked and cleaned their rooms. My youngest daughter who is seven, has a lot of "special" items she has a hard time parting with, but I am extremely proud of her today, she purged a lot of pictures, and what I call garbage from her room. In sorting items, we found a tape, unlabled so we popped it in her tape deck. It was Abba. Now, if you know me, you may know I enjoy Abba tunes, I especially like to do housework to Abba. I was surprised to see her leap into dance and an attempt to sing along to Mamm Mia, in fact, she rewound the tape and listened to it 3 times in a row. It's great to find out your kids like something you do!

Freebies

Being a "trifty" person, as my neighbor likes to call me, I'm always thrilled when you get something of quality for free. Today my husband was buying me a nice coffee from Starbucks drive thru window after church. Again, being cheap, I mean thrifty, I got a grande regular coffee but I was eyeing the eggnog latte that of course costs about $2 more. I went for the regular coffee...save the $2 for tomorrow's coffee at work. Once we were at the window, their debit machine wasn't working after 2 tries (not because our account was empty) so they just waved us on and said the coffee was on them today...alright! I did have a moment where I thought "doh...should have ordered the expensive latte".

Bathing suit blues

Well, I tried on a bathing suit this past week in hopes I'd look fabulous on the beach in a few months without having to break a sweat. Unfortunately, it wasn't a pretty sight. How depressing, although my seven year old told me I looked great... So, today in our work newsletter they are offering different work-out classes. I am seriously thinking of going, the pain that it is going to bring won't be fun. How do I get through Christmas...all those goodies!

Feelin like Elvis

No, I'm not a hunka, hunka burnin love [well, maybe you should ask my husband :) ] Today I purchased new shoes for work. It was an impulse buy at Costco. I was looking at hiker type of shoes that were pretty cheap when the lady who was "showing' them, told me about some shoes that were great for being on your feet a lot. She brought me a pair that are almost identical to the ones I currently wear at work that are clog like and brown ( I might add extremely comfortable). The new ones are navy slip ons. I realized they look like blue suede once I got home...don't step on them, or where I work, worse things could happen.

Shoes

Here's something I've been wondering about recently. How do shoes end up on the road? I've probably noticed a shoe per week for the last while just lying on the pavement, how do they get there? My shoes seem to stay on my feet while I'm driving, I have never had the urge to throw my shoes out the window while I'm driving. I don't think pedestrians are losing shoes...it puzzles me.

Green Tea

I like green tea but now I really like it! Someone told me last night if you substitute green tea for the coffee in you diet, you can lose 10lbs in 6 weeks. Guess what I've got in my mug this morning?

Saver

I live with a saver. He loves to save things. In going through our file cabinet in the "owners manuals" we have accumulated over the years, we have manuals for things we don't own anymore, like the high chair (who needs a manual for that in the first place...place child in, belt, feed, seems pretty basic). BUT, to his credit, there are some interesting things I have found. The receipt for the tux rental from our wedding 15 years ago..with tax, 127.87. I even found our vows written in scribble..kinda cool. One receipt for "gent's wedding ring", $200 less $30 (I love a discount!). I'm not so fond of all the "stuff" he saves, but it does bring some fond memories when you find some gems.

Mom

Well, I have been silent on the blogger for awhile as I have been busy attending to daughter/nurse duties. My Mom was diagnosed with lung cancer in April of this year and she passed away on Oct 9th after a very brave battle. She had decided very early on that she would not attempt chemo as it does not cure lung cancer, just buys you time. As it was, her last month was very painful and it was very hard to watch her suffer. She was able to stay at home through the wonderful Palliative Home Care program and she passed away peacefully in her own home. We are all comforted by the fact that we know we will see her again in heaven one day. I have never experienced "close" grief before. Tears come easily but I am so happy that her worn out body is finally at rest. I feel sadder when I think of the grief my Dad is going through, he lost his spouse of 53 years...there will be tough days.
I know she would want us to continue on with life, I can hear her say "you can't just sit around and cry", so, we are getting back to our normal routine. I love you Mom...thanks for all the good memories!

Peace and Quiet

Well, my beloved children sucessfully started their academic year yesterday. They were ready to go about 15 minutes ahead of when we actually left and they made their own lunches, of course with a reminder from me that they needed to pack a fruit as well, brownies don't count as a fruit (I too wish they did). They had their bags packed weeks in advance, which probably weighed close to what they weigh.
I am now enjoying the silent hum of my dishwasher and eating real food for lunch, KD will notice a dramatic drop in sales from our household. I can also hear my dog snoring who is the only one following me around the house now. It's eerily quiet but I have to admit, I like it! Probably because I know it will at change at 3:30.

Delusional

Last night I sat down to watch the best and worst of Canadian Idol. This was a show where they show some of Canada's "talent" that tried out for Canadian Idol. Now, as my husband is well aware, I cannot sing. Well, I can sing the first line to many songs and commercials but that's about it. (and as my girlfriends know, anyone can sing Chilliwack's My Girl) That doesn't stop me from singing to the radio or cd in the privacy of my home and van. Why would people put themselves through the embarrassment of singing very poorly on national TV and in front of a panel of judges? At least the judges told them, and often not very nicely..like "dogs barking sound better than your singing", that they couldn't sing. No one needs to tell me, I'll stick with rockin in my van with windows closed.

Lucky Stone

One thing about working a Friday night in an emergency room is that it is very rarely dull. Last night one of our "regulars" came in. Usually he's pretty content after we give him a sandwich and some juice. Sometimes he leaves after he's consumed his sandwich in the waiting room and sometimes he actually sticks around to see the doctor. Last night he stuffed his sandwich and juice in his back pack (which also contained a functioning walkman which had beach boy music playing...) and wanted to see the doctor. While waiting in his exam room, he came out and started giving each of the staff a "lucky stone", one of those colored glass beads used for decorating. He told us not to let anyone else touch it and it would bring us luck. Some of the staff didn't want to keep theirs. I kept my stone, not as a lucky charm but as a nice reminder of my blessings.

Easy Bake...My Foot

Well, on a very rainy day and with no after supper plans, my 8 year old daughter convinced me to pull out the easy bake oven and make a cake. There is nothing easy about 2 tablespoons of cakemix and even less water to try to make a cake with a lightbulb. I leave more batter in the bowl when making a real cake. It needed to bake longer but we were unable to push it back in due to it's height. So, she took it with it's icing over to a neighbors to "eat", raw middle and all. Now, doesn't that sound delicious!

I'm a Blogger!

Well, after viewing blogs for awhile and being the wife of a blogger...I thought maybe I should have my own spot to "talk" to no one in particular. And much to my husband's surprise, I did this without one phone call to him for help!
So, now life will take on a new view as I find things to blog about! Oh...the possibilites!
